Spots and Specks on Viking Plates

Technical Bulletin 12/85

Problem:

Small coating specks that will not develop.

Cause:

Adhesive from the tape on old flats and negatives may stick to the plate under vacuum in the exposure frame. This adhesive then prevents the Viking™developer from penetrating and removing the coating. Aqueous- type developers do not dissolve the adhesive.

Correction:

1. The adhesive specks can be removed from the plate after exposing and prior to processing with film cleaner.

2. If the adhesive is not all removed and the developed plate has coating specks, the adhesive and coating specs can be removed by using a "Q-tip" wet with Viking™deletion fluid.

3. Remember to re-gum the treated areas.
